Road robber nabbed in Nagpur; linked to two more thefts

Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit-1 of Nagpur Police arrested a 24-year-old youth involved in a bag-snatching incident in the Beltarodi area and recovered valuables worth Rs 1.43 lakh, including gold ornaments, cash, and a motorcycle used in the crime.

According to police, the incident took place around 1:15 pm on October 18, 2025, when Anushree Ashokrao Hadge (66), a resident of Plot No. 70, Gondwana Nagar, Manish Nagar, was walking towards Manish Nagar. Two unidentified men on a motorcycle approached her from behind and snatched her handbag containing a mobile phone, Rs 8,000 in cash, and other items, altogether worth around Rs 13,000, before fleeing the scene.

Based on her complaint, Beltarodi Police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS for robbery.

During parallel investigation, Crime Branch Unit-1 officers conducted a technical probe and, acting on a tip-off, laid a trap and apprehended the suspect identified as Harsh alias Ekka Mahendra Ramteke (24), resident of Khairlanji Road, Gautam Buddha Ward, Tiroda, District Gondia. He was detained from his relative’s house at Khapri Punarvasan, Nagpur.

During interrogation, Ramteke confessed to committing the robbery along with his accomplice, who is currently absconding. Further questioning revealed that he was also involved in two additional offences, — one chain-snatching case under Sakkardara Police Station limits and one vehicle theft under MIDC Police Station jurisdiction.

Police seized the motorcycle used in the crime, Rs 3,000 in cash, and gold ornaments, all worth about Rs 1.43 lakh, from the accused. He has been handed over to Sakkardara Police for further investigation.

The operation was executed under the guidance of Ravinderkumar Singal, Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City; Navinchandra Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police; Vasant Pardeshi, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime); Rahul Makanikar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection); and Abhijit Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).

The successful action was led by API Sachin Bhonde and his team from Crime Branch Unit-1.
