The maximum entries were received in the Men’s Open Singles and this draw was of 128 players. The number of kids who participated in this tournament gives us hope that Lawn Tennis is an active and vibrant sport.

Matches: There were almost 400 matches played in the tournament across all categories. The semifinals and finals were played on the last day. Team of Chair umpires led by Sandip Nannaware managed the matches and Tournament Supervisor Vishal Landge conducted the tournament efficiently and without any delay. This fact was appreciated by parents and players both. Coaches and Markers who normally do not get an opportunity to play tournaments were allowed to play, and were not even charged entry fees as an incentive from the organisers. This was appreciated by all of them.

Highlights: The Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles threw up new winners. Raj Bagdai won both titles due to his supreme confidence and class. Raj displayed raw power in his shots from the baseline and his placements across the court. His doubles partner Achintya Verma gave the right balance in beating accomplished players like Ajay Neware and Kashit Nagrale. In the Men’s singles Tejal Pal gave a brave fight to Raj but could not match the depth and range of shots Raj displayed. Raj was undoubtedly the player of the tournament, and showed his class in his sportsmanship and humility.

In the Girls U14 and U16, Mishka Tayade once again walked away with both winner trophies. Mishka is the new emerging talent from Nagpur and a player to watch out for. In the Girls U10, petite Tiaana Thakkar won the match against an older opponent Manasvi, but was the darling of the crowd with her court appearance and mannerisms. In Boys U10 little champion Kabir Panchmatia beat equally talented Vihaan Tawani in a match that could have gone either way and was applauded by all present. In the Boys U14 and U16 Akshat Dakshindas was poised to get the crown but due to his health condition he lost the U16 final to Heramba Pohane and in U14 he gave up and retired hurt.

Prize Distribution function: The awards and trophies were presented by Chief Guest Mr Vinod Kanhere, President BJP (West Nagpur) and guests of honour Mr Pramod Kaureti (KKM) and Mr Satish Wade (KKM) and other NDHTA officials Mr Ashok Bhiwapurkar, Dr Sudhir Bhiwapurkar, Mr Vikram Naidu.
