Regional Sports Complex to provide new opportunities to sports personnel of Central India: CM Fadnavis

: With Sports Authority of India opening its regional office in Nagpur, many sports-personnel of Central India and Maharashtra will get a golden opportunity. The Chief Minister said this expressing his hope while handing over the NMC land to Sports Authority of India.

The handing over programme of the Land of NMC to the Sports Authority of India for constructing the Regional Centre in Nagpur was organized in Naivedyam Eastoria hall situated in Kalamna Market on April 30, 2016.

This Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India is slated to be the biggest Regional Centres of India. The Sports Authority of India undertakes the role of training and upliftment of players of various sports. The authorities of Nagpur Municipal Corporation had decided to hand over the land to Sports Authority of India keeping in mind their positive and pro-active attitude towards sports-personnel.

The Land for the Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India is said to be located in Wathoda and the Stone-laying ceremony was done by Central Minister of state for Sports Sarbananda Sonowal in the presence of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.

Prominently present on the occasion were Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Mayor of Nagpur Praveen Datke, Chief Secretary of Kerala G G Thomson, Joint Secretary of Sports Ministry Omkar Kedia, etc.

The land allocated for the Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India is said to admeasure 140 acres. The Sub-Centres of Sports Authority of India in Aurangabad and Mumbai and the entire Maharashtra, Goa, Dadar, Nagar-Haveli will come under the jurisdiction of Nagpur based Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India.

While speaking to the audience, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that this Sports Complex and the Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India will be constructed in three years.

Central Minister of state for Sports Sarbananda Sonowal while addressing the audience declared that the Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India will be named after Pundit Deendayal Upadyay.

The Introductory speech was delivered by Nagpur Mayor Praveen Datke while the programme was compered by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Pramod Bhusari.
