KOLHAPUR/NAGPUR: Rationalist leader Govind Pansare’s attacker was finally nabbed in Sangli on Wednesday at 4.30 am in a joint action by police officials of Kolhapur and Sangli districts. Pansare was shot at outside his residence in Kolhapur city on February 16 but he succumbed to the injuries on February 20 in Mumbai.
Police have identified assailant as Sameer Gaikwad, a 32 year old youth from Sangli city. According to the police, he was arrested from his residence at Moti Chowk in Sangli city. He was produced before the local court in the afternoon, where he was remanded for seven days police custody. The Kolhapur district bar association decided not to defend the attacker; hence Gaikwad currently presented himself before the judge.
The further details of Gaikwad and his action will be addressed in a press conference in the later part of the day.
