Nagpur: A rare Forsten’s Cat Snake was spotted coiled around a tree inside the compound of a house in Nagpur’s Manish Nagar area, creating curiosity among residents.
The snake was spotted at around 4 pm at the residence of Sharad Damle near Padmavati Nagar T-Point. Residents noticed a large brown-coloured snake wrapped around a tree branch. Its appearance was different from the snakes commonly seen in the area.

As the residents were unsure about the species, they avoided disturbing the snake and contacted a trained snake rescuer.
Snake Rescuer Reaches Spot
Information was subsequently given to Ashish Rahekwar, a snake rescuer associated with Help for Animal Welfare Association. He reached the spot and carefully observed the snake before beginning the rescue operation.
Since the exact species could not initially be confirmed, Rahekwar photographed the snake and sent the images to wildlife expert Swapnil Bodhane for identification.
After examining the photographs, Bodhane identified the snake as a Forsten’s Cat Snake.
Snake Safely Rescued
Following the identification, Rahekwar carefully carried out the rescue operation. Precautions were taken to ensure that the snake was not injured and that residents remained at a safe distance.
The snake was successfully brought down from the tree and rescued safely.
Wildlife Spotted in Urban Areas
The discovery of the rare snake in a densely populated part of Manish Nagar has once again highlighted the presence of wildlife within and around Nagpur’s urban landscape.
Wildlife rescuers advise residents not to panic or attempt to catch or kill snakes when they are spotted in residential areas. Instead, people should maintain a safe distance and contact trained snake rescuers or wildlife rescue teams.
The safe rescue of the Forsten’s Cat Snake brought relief to local residents while also generating interest among wildlife enthusiasts.
