Nagpur: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who will be in Nagpur on January 18, will visit the Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd (SDAL) plant at Bazargaon, located at a distance of about 35 km from the city on Amravati Road.
Rajnath Singh will arrive at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on January 18 at 2.45 pm from where he will proceed to the plant. After the company’s visit, Rajnath Singh will also attend various private programmes before leaving for New Delhi at 7.35 pm.
This would be the Minister’s first visit after Operation Sindoor, during which equipment made by the company was also deployed. Singh is expected to visit other defence establishments in the city too. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwiwedi had commended the company for its contribution in Operation Sindoor on Army Day on Thursday.
SDAL’s kamikaze drone system, Nagastra, played a key role in the engagement with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The company also supplied propellant for the missile systems that hit enemy targets during the action. Singh will be visiting the SDAL facility for the second time in the recent past.
Earlier, Singh flagged off the first batch of multimodal hand grenades made by SDAL. The grenades were the first complete ammunition systems made by a private entity for the Army, replacing the age-old version used earlier. Nagpur has emerged as a major centre for the manufacturing of defence systems due to the presence of both private and public sector entities.
Solar Defence & Aerospace Limited, a Solar Group company, is one of the country’s major players in the military ammunition industry. Under the leadership of Chairman Satyanarayan Nuwal, Solar Industries has taken a number of initiatives towards weaponisation of drones, developing variants of Loiter Munitions (LM), Counter Drone Systems, Drone-based Mine Detection and Disposal System, etc.
