Raisoni Memorial Chess Festival in Nagpur from June 8

Nagpur: The stage is set for 18th GH Raisoni Memorial Nagpur Chess Festival which will begin from Sunday June 8 at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology, Shraddha Park, Wadi-Hingna Link Road. The Chess Festival, consisting of Classical, Rapid and Blitz events, is being organised by GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation.

The competition is recognised by Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE, informs Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association, Nagpur, through a press release. “This is the 18th edition of the Chess Festival which marks the biggest FIDE Rating Chess Events in Central India in Classical, Rapid and Blitz Formats will have a total prize money of Rs 4,51,000. The winners of the Classical event will be richer by Rs 51,000. The participants of the event will get a chance to earn FIDE ratings in all three formats,” states the release.

The Classical event has already attracted 220 players from all over India which include International Master Kaustav Kundu and International Master Anwesh Upadhyaya, FIDE Master Arun Kataria and FIDE Masters Kumar Gaurav and Siddhant Gawai. Apart from cash rewards to top 15 finishers, prizes will also be distributed in the best veteran category, best Nagpur player, best female 18+ and best unrated players.

Attractive trophies shall be given to the top finishers in Under- 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 age categories. The Classical event concludes on June 13. Rapid and Blitz events will be held on June 14 and 15. An organising committee headed by Girish Vyas, Ex-MLC, Bhushan Shriwas asOrganising Secretary, and SS Soman, Prayas Ambade, Sagar Sakhare, Amit Tembhurne as members of Organising Committee and entire team of GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation is working for the success of the event.

International Arbiter Ajinkya Pingale has been appointed as Chief Arbiter. FA Shiva Iyer will be his Deputy. They will be assisted by a recognised team of arbiters. Sunil Raisoni, Chairman Raisoni Group, Dr Vivek Kapoor, Director Raisoni Group, Dr Mrunal Naik, Director (Projects) and Amit Gandhare, Director (Public Relations) are closely monitoring the arrangements and have extended their best wishes for the event.
