Raipur/Nagpur: A Raipur  city-based industrialist, who was abducted on Wednesday for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh by a four-member gang from Nagpur, was rescued by Chhattisgarh police and arrested all accused persons.

Raipur Crime Branch, which was informed about the abduction of industrialist Vivek Goel from Kumhari in Durg District and the demand for ransom on late Wednesday night by his family members, laid a trap and nabbed all four abductors — including the mastermind Ravindra Dewangan — in a combined mid-night operation last night by Raipur and Durg police.

Soon after Ravindra, hailing from Sitabadi in Nagpur, fell into the Crime Branch trap as he collected the ransom of Rs 6 lakh from the victim’s brother near Indraprasta Colony here as per the deal, three other members of the gang were also arrested at Hirapur Ring Road where they were waiting for their leader.

While one police team recovered the entire ransom money from Ravindra after a chase, another team rescued the industrialist from the three other accused after intercepting their car at Hirapur, which they had recently stolen from Rajnandgaon, Durg Range IGP Pradip Gupta said.

Later, all the accused were handed over to Kumhari police where the case was registered.

Goel, who owns a chemical factory at Kumhari, was abducted at knife point by the four miscreants on Wednesday afternoon after he accompanied them in a car to show them a plot of land near his factory which he wanted to sell off for Rs.35 lakh. Police was informed about his kidnapping after the miscreants called up his wife Anchal the same night and demanded ransom of Rs.10 lakh for his safe release.

Preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that a couple of months ago, they had adopted same modus operandi and collected Rs.10 lakh ransom from a Durg-based family by abducting the ownerof the property
