Nagpur: At a time when summer vacations and the wedding season are driving heavy travel demand, railway passengers are set to face major disruption as a crucial infrastructure upgrade at Gondia Railway Station triggers a prolonged traffic block.
The block, effective from April 5, 2026, is being undertaken to replace the washable apron on Line No. 5 (Platform No. 3) with a ballasted track, an essential but disruptive engineering work. The move will significantly impact train services connecting to major destinations such as Mumbai (LTT), Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Amritsar.
Long list of train cancellations
According to Central Railway, several long-distance trains will remain cancelled during the block period:
• Shalimar – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express (April 4 to April 24)
• Lokmanya Tilak Terminus – Shalimar Express (April 6 to April 26)
• Korba – Amritsar Express (April 5 to April 25)
• Amritsar – Bilaspur Express (April 7 to April 27)
Additionally, trains operating between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Raigarh, as well as services between Visakhapatnam and Hazrat Nizamuddin, will remain suspended between April 5 and April 25.
The disruption is not limited to long-distance trains. Key MEMU passenger services such as Ballarshah–Gondia and Gondia–Ballarshah will remain completely cancelled during the same period.
In some cases, trains will operate only partially, terminating at intermediate stations like Hirdamali instead of completing their full routes, adding to commuter inconvenience.
Passengers told to prepare for delays
Railway authorities have urged passengers to remain cautious and verify their travel plans in advance. With multiple cancellations, diversions, and partial operations, commuters are advised to check updated schedules through official counters and online platforms before booking or commencing their journey.
With peak travel season underway, the disruption is expected to cause considerable inconvenience, forcing passengers to seek alternative routes, reschedule trips, or rely on road transport.
