Raiding cops put on the edge as woman at gambling den enacts drama in Pachpaoli

Nagpur: Pachpaoli police on Thursday found themselves on the edge when they raided a gambling den where a woman barred their entry and even threatened to kill herself by slashing her vein if cops continued with the raid. But the cops overpowered the woman and her brother and completed the raid. Apart from the accused couple, four other gamblers have been arrested and cash and other material worth Rs 4.07 lakh have been seized.

Acting on a specific information, a team of Pachpaoli police, led by Senior PI Raju Bahadure, swooped on a house in Ashok Nagar Gondpura where the gambling den was being run by Bablu Satyanarayan Roy and Anita Satyanarayan Roy. As the cops reached the house, the woman accused Anita Roy tried to bar entry of the raiding cops and told them that she will not open the door. When cops forced her to open the door, Anita threatened to kill herself by cutting the vein of her hand.

However, the determined cops managed to overpower the defiant accused Anita Roy and her brother Bablu Roy and entered the house-cum-gambling den. Inside the house, the raiding cops found other four accused Santavsingh Rupsingh Tank, Sudhakar Sahebrao Sable, Golusingh Mithusingh Bavri and Beniram Sukhdeo Barapatre busy in gambling. All the six accused including Bablu Roy and Anita Roy were placed under arrest. Cops seized cash of Rs 4.07 lakh, a steel vegetable knife and other material.

The six arrested accused have been booked under Sections 4, 5 of Prevention of Gambling Act read with sections 506, 34 of the IPC.

The team of cops who raided the den comprised Senior PI Raju Bahadure, API Kedare, ASIs Pramod Rokde, Ashok Pund, constable Rajesh Thakur, Naik Police Constables Guruprasad, Vinod Barde, Dinesh Chafelkar, driver Dinesh Bhoyar and Woman Police Constable Surekha Kajal.
