Furthering his attack on Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the prime minister humiliated former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior BJP leaders Jaswant Singh and LK Advani.

The Congress President took to Twitter to post a video, which compares the time of 2014 when Narendra Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat and was the prime ministerial face of the BJP, with the current time.

The video aims at showing how PM Modi then used to bow before senior party leaders and touch their feet, and how he – according to the video – avoided them now. The video specifically targeted on LK Advani, who can be seen with joined hands before PM Modi.

The video posted by Rahul came with the lines: “Ekalavya cut off his right thumb because his Guru demanded it.

In the BJP, they cut down their own Gurus. Humiliating Vajpayeeji, Advaniji, Jaswant Singhji and their families is the Prime Minister’s way of protecting Indian culture”.
The video also runs the song “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aayi” from the Bollywood movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” in the background.

The Twitter post came soon after Rahul launched a scathing attack on Narendra Modi, saying that he was the first to visit ailing Vajpayee at AIIMS after the former prime minister was diagnosed with urinary tract infection.

“Congress party fought against Vajpayee’s govt, but when he was sick it was we who first visited him. This is the ideology of Congress party, we respect our opponents,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Rahul, while addressing a rally of party workers in Goregaon, said that Congress has “given more respect to LK Advani than Modi ji has”.

“Everybody knows who is the guru and mentor of Modi — L K Advani. But the Prime Minister doesn’t accord respect to him even at official functions. It is me who follows protocol and I am always with him (Advani) during (such) events,” he said.

Hitting back at the Congress president, BJP spokesperson Anil Baluni said that Rahul was practising the “lowest form of politics” and said it was bizarre to see the president of the country’s oldest party stoop to such a low.

Baluni referred to Congress leaders’ criticism of former president Pranab Mukherjee for attending an RSS event, and said the country had seen how the party treated one of its veterans.

Congress leaders had torn to pieces clothes of its then-president Sitaram Kesari and thrown him out of his office, Baluni said as he cited alleged mistreatment of former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao by his party to make his point.

Rahul Gandhi should not lecture us political values, he said.
