Nagpur: In a major decision taken by State Government, Property Tax on residential premises of Shourya Chakra or Service Medal winners in Defence Forces has been waived off in rural areas.
Similarly, the residential properties being used by war widowers or dependents of Armed Forces men are being waived off. Various organizations of ex-servicemen had requested relief in Property Tax. The waiving off Property Tax of ex-servicemen in the limits of local self bodies was under consideration of State Government, a notification dated 31.12.2015 issued by Rural Development and Water Resources said.
The Property Tax is assessed by Municipal Corporations, Nagar Parishads, Nagar Panchayats in accordance the with Section 127 of Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1965. The State Government, considering the distinguished services and sacrifices of Shourya Chakra winners and widows of ex-servicemen, has decided to waive of Property Tax on the properties that are in their names. The eligible persons will have to submit the necessary certificates issued by Zilla Sainik Kalyan officers for availing the Property Tax waiver benefit.
