Priyadarshini College student dies after struck by lightning bolt while playing football

A student of Priyadarshini College of Engineering, Nagpur was killed when he was struck by a lightning bolt on Saturday evening. The student was playing football all alone on a ground near College premises.

According to reports, the student Rakesh Kumar Murmu (23), a native of Jharkhand and studying in Priyadarshini College of Engineering, was playing football alone at the College Ground in a cloudy and rainy day on Saturday. At about 6.30 pm, Rakesh Kumar was struck by a lightning bolt and as a result he collapsed on the ground after receiving severe burn injuries and a powerful jolt. Some nearby residents and College staff rushed Rakesh Kumar to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Rakesh Kumar was a Final Year Engineering student and staying in Lokmanya Nagar in Hingna in a rented house.

MIDC police, who were informed about the incident, reached the spot and later Lata Mangeshkar Hospital. After preliminary enquiry, police have sent body of Rakesh Kumar Murmu to Government Hospital for post-mortem and probing the matter further.
