Principal of Chandrapur college found murdered in wee hours near Ajni Square in city

Nagpur: A Principal of a Chandrapur college was found hacked to death between Ajni Square and Krupalani Square in the city in the wee hours of Friday. On the basis of Aadhar Card, cops have identified the deceased as Moreshwar Madhavrao Wankhede (61), resident of Narendra Nagar.

According to police sources, Moreshwar Wankhede was Principal of Arts and Commerce College in Tukumb area of Chandrapur. He used to make up and down trip between Ajni Railway Station and Chandrapur daily. On Friday, Moreshwar, as usual, left for Ajni Station along with a friend at 4 am on his Dio two-wheeler. He used to keep his vehicle at Ajni Station. It is learnt that Moreshwar’s two-wheeler dashed against a roadside tree between Ajni Square and Krupalani Square. At this time precisely, unidentified person(s) slit his throat with a sharp-edged weapon and killed him on the spot.

On being informed, a team of cops, led by Bajaj Nagar Police Inspector, rushed to the spot. The DCP Smartna Patil too visited the spot and guided the investigation. Five teams of cops have been formed for trailing the accused murderer(s). After performing the panchnama, body of Moreshwar was sent to the GMCH for post-mortem.

Cops identified the deceased as Moreshwar Wankhede on the basis of Aadhar Card found in his pocket. Relatives have also recognised the body as that of Moreshwar.

Cops have registered a case of murder and launched an in-depth probe to ascertain the motive behind the murder as well as the identity of the accused. It could not be verified whether Moreshwar’s friend was accompanying him on this fateful day.
