Nagpur: Potholes have started to show their ugly face on roads asphalted by the State’s Public Works Department (PWD) and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) just 7-9 months ago. The poor road condition reveals continuation of shoddy works by these two government agencies. No action has been taken against the contractors, who have also not been directed to undertake repairs as the work is within the Defect Liability Period (DLP) of three years, according to reports in local media.

The civic body’s data says the road from High Court to Maha Metro office, and part of Japanese Garden Square to Katol Road was asphalted in December last year by NMC. At the same time, PWD tarred the stretch from MLA Hostel Square to Hislop College. Further stretch up to Air India office was asphalted by NMC.

A series of potholes have developed on the road from HC to Maha Metro’s office and MLA Hostel Square to Raja Rani Square. Surface layer at a few locations on Japanese Garden Square to Katol Road has peeled off.

NMC had asphalted a few major roads in January. Surface layer can be seen coming off on some of these roads, especially on the road from Orange City Hospital Square to Ajni Square, Mangalmurti Square to Jaitala bus stop, Pratap Nagar Square to London Street Road etc.

Unfortunately, engineers of PWD and NMC continue to overlook the damaged roads, do not slap penalty or get repairs done from the contractors as DLP is of three years. Some major roads in Civil Lines are also in bad shape. The road from Japanese Garden Square to VCA Stadium, Air India office to University Square, Mount Road to Rajbhavan etc are full of craters.
