Nagpur: On Tuesday, April 9, Nagpur was adorned with pomp and grandeur as it embraced the celebration of Gudi Padwa, heralding the Hindu New Year. This year, as per tradition, is named ‘Krodhi,’ signifying anger.” Additionally, he highlighted the significance of Chaitra Navratri, which began on April 9 and will culminate on April 17, coinciding with Ram Navmi. During these nine days, devotees venerate Goddess Durga, observing distinct prayers and customs each day.

The onset of Gudi Padwa represents the commencement of the New Year for many across the country. While Maharashtra celebrates it as Gudi Padwa, West Bengal observes Poila Boishak, and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka commemorate Ugadi. During this period, homes are adorned, and individuals attire themselves in new clothes, symbolizing the ushering in of prosperity. Gudi Padwa, in particular, holds significance for Maharashtra, marking the commencement of the harvest season.

Furthermore, the Sindhi community observes this auspicious day as ‘Cheti Chand,’ honouring the emergence of Lord Jhulelal. The festivities include prayers and the preparation of traditional delicacies like tahiri and sai bhaji.
