Poll money trail: Rs 77 lakh seized from a car at check post in Gondia

Gondia: Implementing the Code of Conduct in force for Lok Sabha pools, the district police administration has been keeping a close watch on vehicles coming from other states and rural parts and entering Gondia. Check posts have been set up at borders. Teams of police officials, traffic police and flying squads of Election Department have been deployed at these check posts.

On March 30 night, police got an information that a Tata Indica car was parked near Chandrabhaga Naka in front of the Tirora branch of Gondia District Central Co-operative Bank (GDCCB) and some people were carrying huge cash in it. Taking swift action, Assistant Police Inspector Kailash Gavte accompanied by NaibTehsilder Vankade and other officials searched the vehicle (MH-35/P 4811) and seized Rs 77 lakh cash kept in a bag on rear seat and in tin box in car dicky.

The men seated on the car Akash Manohar Walde, and driver Devendra Palandurkar failed to give proper answers to authorities after which they seized the cash and deposited the cash in Tehsil Treasury in Tirora and informed about the cash seizer to Gondia Income Tax authorities and District Election Officer.

Rs 1 lakh cash seized from BSP candidate
Similarly, authorities recovered cash of Rs 1 lakh from BSP candidate for Gondia-Bhandara Lok Sabha constituency, Dr Vijaya Nandurkar.

A team of SST Block Officer Baliram Bhandarkar, two women Patwaris and a lady cop stopped an Indica Car (MH-36/Z- 4257) at Karanja T-point on bypass road, in which BSP candidate Dr Vijaya Nandurkar accompanied by her husband Dr Rajesh Nandurkar, driver Randhir Madankar and Sanjay Sawarkar, all residents of Paoni in Bhandara district, were travelling. During search, cash of Rs 1 lakh was recovered from the purse of Dr Vijaya Nandurkar. She didn’t give satisfactory answers about the cash she was carrying.

As the official were busy completing the formalities BSP workers reached the spot and allegedly entered into altercation with the officials. Acase under Sections 171E, 188, 186, 34, 123 of IPC was registered against all with Gondia Rural Police and the cash was deposited with District Treasury.
