Picnic turns tragedy as 3 persons, all Nagpur residents, killed in car crash on Hingna Road

The victims were returning to Nagpur after visiting a picnic spot in Mohgaon Zilpi near Hingna on Sunday.

Three persons were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into a roadside tree near Mohgaon village on Hingna-Nagpur road. The ghastly accident occurred at about 5 pm on Sunday. Two were killed on the spot while the third person succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital. All the three victims were returning to Nagpur after visiting a picnic spot in Mohgaon Zilpi near Hingna on Sunday.

According to reports, the victims Gajendra Prakash Samarth (35), resident of Hindustan Colony, near Sai Mandir, Wardha Road, Nagpur, Nilesh Shashikant Dhopte (31), resident of Verma Layout, Nagpur and Nandu alias Vivek Ramesh Jibhyankar (35), resident of Dharampeth Gadga, Nagpur were returning to Nagpur in their Maruti Suzuki Ertiga car (MH-31/EA 7980) after visiting a picnic spot in Mohgaon Zilpi near Hingna. The trio had gone to the picnic spot on Sunday to enjoy the holiday. While returning, the driver of the speeding car (It is not ascertained who was driving the car) reportedly lost control of the speeding car and crashed it into the roadside tree and got toppled 3-4 times.

The impact was so forceful that Nilesh Shashikant Dhopte and Nandu alias Vivek Ramesh Jibhyankar, who were seated in the front, died on the spot while Gajendra Prakash Samarth, seated in the back, received critical injuries. He got trapped in the crushed car, and after a great effort by nearby residents, was pulled out and was rushed to Rural Hospital in Hingna. However, Gajendra succumbed to his serious head injury and was declared dead by doctors while undergoing treatment. The car turned into mangled heap of steel after the impact.

All the three victims were married.

A team of Hingna police reached the spot and after preliminary enquiries sent the bodies to Government Hospital for post-mortem. Head Constable Suryabhan Gavai is investigating the matter further.
