Nagpur: The Nagpur City Traffic Police has intensified action against parents and vehicle owners who allow minors to drive motor vehicles. In 26 cases registered in 2026, courts have convicted the accused and imposed a ₹30,000 fine in each case. In addition, action has been taken against the concerned driving licence for 12 months, including cancellation or disqualification from driving.
The traffic police has been conducting continuous enforcement drives to prevent road accidents and discourage minors from riding or driving vehicles. The focus is not only on minors found driving but also on parents and vehicle owners who provide them with vehicles.

26 Cases Result in Convictions
Several cases were registered by the Traffic Department in 2026 against individuals who allegedly allowed minors to drive. Following completion of court proceedings, 26 accused were convicted.
According to the provisions applied in these cases, a ₹25,000 penalty was imposed under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further action under Section 199(4) resulted in cancellation or disqualification of the driving licence for 12 months. The total penalty in each conviction amounted to ₹30,000.
Giving Vehicle Keys to Minors Can Prove Costly
Parents sometimes allow their children to ride or drive vehicles for short trips, errands or simply to satisfy their demands. However, such decisions can put not only the child but also other road users at serious risk.
Minors generally do not possess a valid driving licence, and their limited experience can make it difficult to respond safely to sudden traffic situations, speeding vehicles, turns and braking requirements.
