Pardi Octroi Post employee found murdered with throat slit, killers try to burn body

Nagpur: Tension and panic gripped Nageshwar Nagar area of the city when a young employee of Pardi Octroi Post was found murdered with his throat slit. The alleged murderer or murderers tried to burn the body with the intention of destroying the evidence.

The deceased has been identified as Lakhan Vasudeo Mate (24), resident of Nageshwar Nagar coming under Kalamna Police Station. It is said that father of Lakhan has already passed away. Lakhan’s younger brother Mangesh Mate is truck driver in Punjab. Lakhan was staying with mother Godavari in Nagpur. According to police, Lakhan returned home in the evening on Monday but soon left it on being called by a friend. However, he did not return home despite lapse of considerable time causing anxiety to his mother. In the morning at about 6.30 on Monday, half-burned body of Lakhan was spotted at a vacant ground in the area. A team of Kalamna police too reached the spot and launched preliminary investigation. As the news of the incident reached Godavari, she too rushed to the scene and identified the body as that of his son. Lakhan’s body bore a deep wound at throat that pointed out it was slit by a sharp-edged weapon. The alleged killer or killers tried to burn Lakhan’s body with the intention of destroying the evidence.

As if now, the cops are clueless over the reason behind Lakhan’s murder and the identity of the killer(s). The half-burned body of Lakhan was later sent to a Government Hospital for post-mortem.

It is being reported that the deceased Lakhan was a hardened alcoholic and when he left home on Monday evening, his mother Godavari had asked him not to go. But Lakhan had promised to come home soon. He never returned and Godavari had to identify his son’s body the next morning.

Two knife-like objects found near body:

The cops investigating the murder were left baffled when they found two knife-like objects thrown near the body. Police suspect more than one person involved in the gory murder. The seized arms were sent to Forensic Laboratory to ascertain whether the same weapons were used in the murder.
