While addressing the graduating students, lecturers and guests at the graduation ceremony of GH Raisoni College of Engineering, Padma Vibhushan Dr Kakodkar said that India, is already the third largest economy in $ PPP terms and was set to become the largest country with young population in the world and that it urgently needed to raise its innovation as well as engineering and technological potential to move further in the present highly competitive knowledge economy for capitalizing its human resource. He stated that this was the area where quality engineering education and research institutions played an important role. He complimented GH Raisoni College of Engineering for playing their role in this important task.

Dr.Anil Kakodkar in his address wished the students a very successful career ahead and urged them that as an engineer or a technologist should become an important part of the Nation building process through their respective capabilities that they have acquired during the course of their studies.

He further said that there is ample scope for innovation and entrepreneurship and the way our country is evolving, the opportunities for the capable ones would continuously expand.

Celebration of graduation ceremony is a well established practice amongst the autonomous colleges in our country. In keeping with tradition G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering Nagpur (GHRCE), NAAC Grade “A” and NBA accredited Flagship Institute of Raisoni Group of Institutions, organized its First graduation ceremony on June 30, 2014. It was for the first time that two stalwarts of Indian Technical Society have graced such wonderfully organized function. Padma-Vibhushan and former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission, Govt. of India Dr A K Kakodkar and Director of IIT Delhi, Dr R K Shevagaonkar were chief guests for the function. Vice chancellor of RTMNU Nagpur Anoop Kumar, Pro-vice chancellor, RTMNU Nagpur Dr. V. S. Deshpande, Chairman BOG GHRCE Sunil Raisoni and Secretary Ankush Sikshan Santha and member BoG Shobha Raisoni graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. The program started with the Academic procession led by Director of the Institute Dr. Preeti Bajaj. The program was conducted in the auditorium of the college.

Chairman of Raisoni Group of Institutions Sunil Raisoni declared the graduation ceremony open. During the graduation the ceremony 4 gold medals were awarded to topmost rank holders in undergraduate and post graduate programmes. Sushant Burde was awarded Gold in Electronics branch, Prachi Moharir was awarded gold in Enviromental Engineering, Munmun Ghosal was awarded gold (VLSI) PG course and Uzma Quadri was awarded gold in (VLSI) PG course. 49 silver medals were also awarded in various disciplines. Hemant Ghungare of Electonics department was awarded Best Student for the year 2014.

Dr. Preeti Bajaj, director of the Institute welcomed the dignitaries and presented the Institute’s report highlighting the achievements of the institute from the time it was conferred with the autonomous status. She presented that in the last four years of autonomy the institute was accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC, Six post graduate programs were accredited, four under graduate programs were reaccredited, 44 patents were filed and more than 1000 papers were published by the faculties and students.

In his address Sunil Raisoni lauded the role of BOG, Academic Council members, Director, Deputy Directors, Faculty and supporting staff of the institute who have rendered sterling services coping with the increased strains and stresses under Autonomy. The Chief Guest Dr. R. K. Shevagaonkar, Director, IIT Delhi congratulated the students, parents, management, director and faculties of the institute. In his graduation address he mentioned that the quality consciousness of the college could be seen in the efforts it has made to modify its curriculum to meet the standards of Washington Accord. He congratulated the College authorities for this very important step. He stated that the graduating students would realize the importance of this step when they get into the professional world. He was quoted as saying that ‘A bird sitting on a tree has no fear of fall, not because it is sitting on a solid branch but it has faith in its wings’. He also added that graduates should not confuse between education and course content, that education is a combination of logical reasoning, analytical and experimental skills, professional ethos, time management, and many others. He reminded the audience that knowledge always made a person humble, sensitive, and polite. The more they acquire knowledge the more they realize how little they know. He said that knowledge should be used for welfare of the human kind. He stressed on the fact that education should help them in building a society in which every human being could live with utmost happiness, peace and pride. He reminded them that first they had to be a good citizen, and that the rest would follow.

Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar also mentioned that they should now be ready to face the exciting world outside. He urged the students that as an engineer or a technologist they should be an important part of the Nation building process through their respective capabilities that they have acquired here. He stated that there was ample scope for innovation and entrepreneurship and that by the way our country is evolving, the opportunities for the capable ones would continuously expand. He wished all the graduating students a very successful career ahead and also wished that their dreams would be fully realized. He further mentioned that Indians had a great heritage and that India was a premier country in the world till about five or six centuries ago. He stated that as a country we had great Universities and centers of learning that attracted scholars from many parts of the world and also that we possessed a time tested value system. He reminded that after a long period of oppression and foreign rule, India was now bouncing back and that democracy had taken roots in Independent India. He proudly professed that Indian youth have demonstrated their capabilities through their impact both in technological as well as in economic terms, here in India as well as in countries abroad. proclaimed that the world was now highly interconnected and that anyone, anywhere and anytime connected society was now fast taking shape.

He pressed on the fact that the country needed such people, in large numbers, who could guide and shape the society as it evolved through knowledge and technology driven transitions on one side and rapid mixing of cultures driven by instant communications that take place today on the other. He said that such people, through their research and analysis could present an authentic assessment of the transitions around, create innovative approaches to maximize the gains and minimize threats and prepare the youth with capability to effectively deal with the evolving situation. He pointed out that the very fact that Indian traditions and culture have survived through centuries of external influence gave us the hope about our society is responding correctly to the changing paradigm.

Dr. Anil Kakodkar stressed on the fact that high quality research in our engineering and technological institutions should become comparable to the best in the world and for that we should be able to identify individuals and groups who do research that can be compared with the best in the world and specially support them liberally. He also insisted that we should engage ourselves in some grand challenge activities of importance to the Nation. He concluded by reminding the audience that happiness depends on the happiness of all around us.

Vice Chancellor Rashtasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University Anoop Kumar marked his presence with his wishes to G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering. He said he felt honored by the presence of two extraordinary individuals. He further mentioned that the First Graduation Day was a historic occasion and marked the realization of dream, commitment, innovation, and hard work of the founding fathers of this budding institution. He referred to the graduating students as stars of the event and congratulated them for the awards and medals they received. He also extended his wishes to the proud parents to remember this day with much greater fondness than the graduating students. He wished that all the students would realize their potential fully and wholly and would make this country and the world a better place for all of us. He added that the it would be a moment of pride for them as G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering is one of the leading technical education institutes in Central India which had achieved global recognition for quality in a short span of time. He referred to the college as one of the good assets of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. He appealed to the students to focus on consolidation of knowledge and skills acquired in all these years and to use the knowledge and experience to be successful in the job market.
