If you’re a film enthusiast in Nagpur, there must have been occasions where you felt cheated by the lack of releases for niche/English films or the absence of major choice when you’re in the mood for some fine cinema. Echoing your thoughts is Dr. Jabbar Patel, who is now all set to launch Nagpur’s own international film festival and is sure that this will put the city on the global map for such festivals in the future.

Sounds great, right? With the rise of Marathi cinema on the back of fantastic releases like Sairaat, Katyaar Kaljat Ghusli and Natsamrat in the last year, we hope the film festival will showcase the under-rated beauty of our regional films as much as it focuses on quality world cinema.

Interestingly, Nagpur will now be the 4th state in Maharashtra to have its own film festival – the others being Mumbai, Pune and Aurangabad. Dr. Patel, a founder of Pune Film Foundation is looking after the festival as its co-ordinator.

While we look forward to the exact schedule of the film festival and hope for an interesting schedule, we have been confirmed that the Orange City Cultural Foundation (the body behind the festival) is planning to hold the film festival on January 26-29, 2017.

The Foundation is also planning to hold a film-appreciation workshop on August 7, 2016 as a pre-cursor to the festival.

It’s a merry January 2017 for cine buffs in Nagpur after all!
