Opposition MLAs in Nagpur Protest with Black Bands in Solidarity with Suspended MP’s

Nagpur: The suspension of opposition MPs in Delhi during the ongoing Winter Session has sparked a similar protest in Nagpur on the final day of the Winter Session. Today, legislators in Nagpur donned black bands as a symbolic gesture against the suspension imposed on their counterparts in Delhi. Opposition members first made a public display outside the assembly premises by tying black bands on their hands before entering the assembly hall.

The method of suspension employed has been deemed erroneous, and legislators clearly expressed that it resembles an assault on democracy. In a significant move, a large number of opposition MPs faced suspension during the Winter Session of Parliament for the first time.

The backlash against the controversial decision prompted a temporary adjournment of proceedings, and on Tuesday, an additional 49 legislators were suspended from Lok Sabha, bringing the total number of suspended legislators to 141. Prominent leaders, including senior Congress figures Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, and Karti Chidambaram, were among those suspended on Tuesday
