‘Operation Thunder’: Rs 12 lakh worth MD powder seized from car in Imambada, 4 held

Nagpur: In a major crackdown under ‘Operation Thunder’, Imambada Police in Nagpur on Saturday apprehended four individuals for possessing and transporting 239.660 grams of MD (mephedrone) powder worth Rs 12 lakh. The contraband was found concealed in a Maruti Swift car, along with mobile phones and the vehicle itself, collectively valued at Rs 18.65 lakh.

Acting on reliable intelligence, a police team led by Imambada Police set up a trap on the road between TB Ward Square and Jattarodi Square on June 21, between 12:35 pm and 2:40 pm. The team intercepted a white Maruti Swift (MH 49 BB 0613) suspected to be carrying narcotics.

Upon stopping the vehicle, four occupants were identified as Nilsh Laxmanrao Deshmukh (34), resident of Siraspeth, Teli Pura, Imambada, Pranay alias Sumit Gopalrao Gaydhane (31), of Siraspeth, Imambada, Ashish Prakash Madavi (31), near NIT Garden, Siraspeth, Imambada, and Shubham alias Bhurya Rajesh Tidke (30), resident of Somwari Quarters, Tupkar Chowk, Sakkardara.

During the search, police recovered 239.660 grams of MD powder hidden in a ziplock pouch inside the car’s front drawer. The seized items include: MD powder worth Rs 11,95,000, four mobile phones, and a Maruti Swift car. Total value of the seized materials amounts to Rs 18,65,790.

According to police, the accused were transporting the drugs for financial gain. An offence has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Imambada Police Station. All four accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out under the directive of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal, and the guidance of Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Addl CP Shivajirao Rathod (South Region), DCP Rashmita Rao (Zone 4), and ACP Narendra Hiware (Sakkardara Division).

The arrest and seizure were executed by PI Rahul Shire, PSI Ganesh Khandate, API Ganesh Pawar, and other team members including constables Sandeep Borsare, Virendra Gulrandhe, Ganesh Bubulkar, Bhagwatikumar Thakur, Chandrashekhar Dekate, Jitendra Chaudhary, Ranjit Sakkarwar, Kunal Uike, and Himanshu.
