Operation Thunder: Murder-accused among MD drug peddlers nabbed in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a major crackdown under Operation Thunder, the Crime Branch’s NDPS squad arrested three men, including a murder-accused habitual offender, for allegedly peddling MD drugs in Kamgar Nagar under Kapil Nagar Police Station limits during the early hours of Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the team carried out a well-coordinated raid near a scrap shop outside Gausiya Masjid between 11 pm on November 28 and 2.50 am on November 29, registering an offence under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act in Crime No. 761/2025.

Those arrested have been identified as: Sameer Amar Saghir Ahmed (30), a habitual criminal with 16 previous cases, including two NDPS cases, one murder case (IPC 302), cases of dacoity planning, Arms Act offences, cattle-related crimes, theft, and assault, Imran alias Imu alias Pachpan Ahmed Saghir Ahmed (28), accused in a case involving obscene abuse and assault, and Akash Bhagirath Sayyam (26), resident of Bhimwadi Slums, Yashodhara Nagar. Police have also launched a manhunt for wanted accused Sonu Sattar Sheikh (26) of Kamgar Nagar.

During the operation, police seized:

• 85.030 grams of MD powder worth Rs 4.25 lakh

• Four mobile phones valued at Rs 31,000

• Honda four-wheeler valued at Rs 3 lakh

• Royal Enfield Bullet (engraved ‘Imran 55’) worth Rs 2.5 lakh

• Rs 2.55 lakh cash

• Electronic weighing machine, packaging material, and DVR

The total value of the seized property stands at Rs 12,71,750.

Officials said that the raid followed confirmation of the accused’s active involvement in MD drug distribution in the Kapil Nagar area. The suspects were intercepted in the presence of panch witnesses, adhering to NDPS procedures.

Kapil Nagar Police have registered the case and initiated further investigation to trace the absconding accused and identify the supply chain.
