Nagpur: In a major breakthrough under the citywide anti-narcotics campaign “Operation Thunder”, launched by Nagpur Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, Kalamna Police arrested two youths and seized 62.580 kg of ganja during a late-night operation in Kalamna.
The action was carried out on December 4 by the Crime Detection Unit of Kalamna Police Station, led by API Shashikant Musale, following a tip-off from an informer. The intelligence indicated that two suspects, identified as Harsh Pandey and Mohammed Sohail Siddiqui, had stored a large quantity of ganja near the drainage canal in Bele Nagar for illegal sale.
Despite limited inputs, the police team laid a trap near a tin shed close to Gupta’s structure in Bele Nagar and maintained surveillance through the night. Around 2 pm, the suspects arrived at the spot on a black Activa moped to collect the contraband. As they loaded the ganja onto the vehicle, the team intercepted them and detained both on the spot.
A total of 62.580 kg of ganja, reportedly sourced from Odisha, was recovered from their possession. The narcotics are valued at Rs 12.90 lakh, while additional seized property, including a Honda Activa moped worth Rs 50,000 and a Vivo mobile phone worth Rs 10,000, took the total seizure value to Rs 13,50,000.
The arrested accused have been identified as Harsh Ravi Pandey (19), resident of Bele Nagar, near Taj Noori Masjid, Kalamna and Mohammed Sohail alias Sohail Siddiqui (22), resident of Bele Nagar, near Afzal Cold Storage, Kalamna.
Police have registered an offence under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source network involved in transporting ganja from Odisha to Nagpur.
The successful operation was conducted under the supervision of CP Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Addl CP (South Region) Dr. Shivaji Rathod, DCP Niketan Kadam and ACP Rohit Owal. The team included Senior PI Pravin Kale, API Shashikant Musale and personnel from Kalamna Police Station.
Police sources said more arrests are likely as investigators hunt for the supply chain linked to the seized consignment.
