Nagpur: One more case of selling a newborn baby has come to light in Nagpur. Shweta Khan, the mastermind in the case of selling an eight-month-old baby from Kalamna police station limits, has reportedly sold a 4-day-old newborn baby to a couple from Gujarat. Hudkeshwar police registered a fourth case against Shweta Khan in this matter.

The accused have been identified as Vinay Sultayani (36), resident Varasia Vadodara, and his wife Monica Vinay Sultayani (31), and Vishal Chandwani. According to the information provided by the police, during the investigation, Seema alias Parveen Ansari (40) and Shweta alias Ayesha Khan (45) and Sachin Patil (40) were interrogated by the Crime Branch.

Subsequently, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Nagpur police has rescued the baby girl from a couple in Baroda, Gujarat, who had purchased her for around Rs 3 lakh in September when she was four-days-old, from child selling racket kingpin Shweta Khan alias Ayesha. Paediatrician Praveen Singh Bais too has been named as accused on the basis of information revealed by the racketeers, said media reports.

According to reports, apart from Ayesha, police have also booked her husband Maqbool, Sachin Patil, Vishal Chandwani, his sister and her husband. Ayesha, Maqbool and Patil are co-accused in previous cases too. Police have recovered at least three children sold by these racketeers.

The media reports further said that Chandwani’s sister had lost her newborn daughter a few years back, and two attempts to conceive through artificial means did not work. The Baroda couple then got Patil’s number from a relative. Patil introduced them to Ayesha, a nurse-turned-child seller, who was assured to provide them a child. Ayesha had roped in a widow who had become pregnant. Ayesha had taken the woman to Balaghat, and ensured a normal delivery at home on September 4. Two days later, she had contacted Patil and on the fourth day the baby was handed over to the couple from Baroda.

According to reports, the racketeers had set up a fake hospital called ‘Child Care’, near Mahakalkar Sabhagruha, to project as if the baby was being handed over through ‘proper channels’ in the presence of a paediatrician doctor. Police said the couple was introduced to Dr Bais at this hospital, which no longer exists now.

Police managed to procure call details of Patil and Ayesha, which helped them crack the case. The cops under API Sankpal managed to zero down on the Gujarat family and rescue the baby.

Mastermind Ayesha has already been booked at Kotwali and Sitabuldi police stations earlier. Now, three fresh cases have been lodged at Kalamna, Ambazari, and now Hudkeshwar, the reports added.
