On duty traffic cop beaten up by unruly youth at Samvidhan Square

Nagpur: Stopped for not wearing helmet, a youth reportedly thrashed a middle aged traffic cop deployed at Samvidhan Square on Tuesday afternoon.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Mobin Ansari, resident of Mominpura, reportedly misbehaved with the cop and also used his bike keys to injure a 51-year-old complainant Nilesh Dighambar Chaudhary, resident of CRPF Colony, Hingna Road.

As per the preliminary details, the cop was on regular vehicle checking drive at Samvidhan Square when he found accused Ansari without helmet. When the traffic cop Chaudhary sought licence from the accused, Ansari told the cop that he has forgotten his license back in home. Thus the traffic cop asked him to call home and get his license. Following which an argument broke out between them. Ansari then called his friend who apparently pushed the cop due to which a 51-year-old victim fell on the road. Subsequently the accused Ansari started hitting blows on the traffic cop. The accused also used his bike keys to attack complainant cop following which he suffered severe bruises on his face.

Furious due to incident, the mob witnessing the entire episode subsequently started beating accused black and blue. However, the mob got in control when the senior police officials intervened into the matter and took the accused to Sadar police station.

Sadar police have booked accused Ansari under Sections 352, 332 of IPC and started the probe.
