Nagpur: A shocking incident of arson and vandalism allegedly stemming from an old enmity created panic in Nagpur’s MIDC police station limits after four unidentified miscreants targeted a family’s residence in the Isasani area during the early hours of the morning.
According to police sources, the attack took place at around 2 am at the residence of Dattatray Shivaji Gaikwad, located behind the Gram Panchayat office in Ward No. 6 of Isasani. The assailants allegedly attempted to force their way into the house and, upon failing to gain entry, set fire to property outside the residence.
The blaze destroyed the electricity meter installed outside the house and reduced two parked two-wheelers to ashes. The attackers then allegedly went on a rampage, pelting stones and bricks at the house and causing extensive damage to the property. The main entrance door was also damaged during the attack.
Terrified by the sudden assault, members of the Gaikwad family reportedly locked themselves inside the bathroom to save their lives while the attackers continued their violent acts outside.
The family immediately alerted the police by calling the emergency helpline number 112. A Beat Marshal team rushed to the spot and safely evacuated the family from the house. However, by the time police arrived, all four accused had fled from the scene.
The incident has triggered fear and concern among residents of the locality, with many expressing anger over the brazen nature of the attack.
MIDC police have registered a case against four unidentified persons and launched an investigation. Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and have initiated a search operation to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
Officials suspect that an old rivalry may have been the motive behind the attack, though the exact reason will be established after further investigation.
