OCW’s step towards Women Empowerment gets “Thumbs Up”

“A study revealed that women always do better while managing things in so called male bastion like Tanker Operations”. Acting on same lines, where women have shown their strengths in every field from Fighter Pilot to a Bus and Railway Driver, the Orange City Water (OCW) initiated strongest ever step towards ‘Women Empowerment’ and deployed women power as ‘Tanker Supervisors’ for managing the much talked about and so called men-dominated ‘Tanker Management’, in water supply sector.

JCI-Women’s World, Nagpur recognized and also honoured the novel initiative of OCW in the field of women empowerment and Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr K Venkyatesham felicitated Reshma Choudhari (Bazonbagh ESR), Aruna Nanoti (Laxmi Nagar ESR), and Yogita Sharma (Gorewada ESR) who stormed into male bastion by accepting the challenge to work with OCW to manage water Tankers in Nagpur City.

On the occasion Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr K Venkyatesham also felicitated OCW CEO Sanjoy Roy for taking a bold initiative against all odds to recruit the Women and deploy them to manage Tanker Operations.

Praveen Sharan (Head: Tanker Management), Sachin Dravekar (Head: Public Relations), President: Jc Faiza Khwaja, Secretary: JC Santosh Arora, Kiran Rajkhokar, Lovely Singh and others were prominently present on the occasion.
It must be mentioned here, in the year 2014, the CEO of Orange City Water (OCW) Sanjoy Roy took the bold initiative against all odds to recruit the Women and deploy them to manage Tankers. He had a firm belief that their presence will certainly change the working atmosphere at the Tanker Hydrants for better. Today his decision stands vindicated as in the last two years the overall work culture at the Tanker hydrants has substantially improved.

There is literally no disturbance at the locations where this Women Power is posted; they have a better control on the logistics management which has resulted in improved consumer satisfaction.


3-Women (Hydrant Supervisors) awarded are:

1) The Tanker operations from the hydrants at Bezonbagh ESR is controlled by the young and dynamic Reshma Choudhary who has to her credit been awarded with a purple belt in Karate. At times she also rides the Tanker and visits the consumer to inquire the exact reason for demanding water through Tanker trip.She handles the Taker operations very efficiently & effectively. She is very particular ensure that the laid down precautionary measures are followed regarding water wastage from Tankers and in case any observation is made of water spillage , leakage or overflowing strict action is taken.

  1. The Tanker operations from the hydrants at Laxmi Nagar ESR are controlled by Aruna Nanoti who has to her credit been awarded with a black belt in Karate. Her job profile demands skills for liasoning with the public representative and complying with their tanker trips demand which she carries out diligently. Over a period last two years she has also learnt the hard way of getting job done out of Tanker drivers. The discipline has improved for better which has resulted in better working language and culture.
  2. The Tanker operations from the hydrants at Gorewada are controlled by the young and dynamic Yogita Sharma who has to her credit been awarded with a Black belt in Karate and also was an instructor of Karate. She has the quality of pacifying any agitated consumer and coolly listening to their tanker trip demand or any other grievance and calmly addressing the issue within the limits of her power & responsibility.

Thus, in this era of equality OCW is truly keeping pace with the advancement by respecting and trusting the abilities and power of the women of today and is proud to be so.

OCW Water Conservation Rally on January 18
Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Social Work is organizing a Water Conservation rally in collaboration with Orange City Water (OCW) on 18th January 2017 at 9.30 am to raise awareness among the society and for citizen onboarding as well.

OCW CEO Sanjoy Roy will flag off the rally which will pass through Shramjivi nagar- Vasant nagar- Prgati nagar- Bhagwan nagar- Dnyaneshwar nagar- college
