Nagpur News: In a surprise stand, the Water Supply Committee Chief Sudhakar Kohle justified Wednesday’s attack on the main office of NMC’s contractor company Orange City Water (OCW) at Subhash Nagar in Nagpur. It was alleged that the attack was pre-planned act. Kohle said that irrespective of whosoever might have been involved into this, whatever happened was quite good. He termed it as the result of whimsical attitude of OCW officials. Now the company would take care to ensure proper water supply in the city for the entire summer season.

He revealed that the story behind the incident lies in the fact that there was some technical issue between NMC’s project department and water supply department.

NMC opposition leader Vikas Thakre who reached the spot also justified the incident saying that the citizens are distressed as they are not getting clean potable water since the privatization of water supply department fell in place. He said that entire Nagpur is reeling under severe water problem. The residents were being supplied dirty water for the last 7-8 days. Moreover, the disproportionate water bills are being handed out to the citizens, who have been running from NMC zone to water department to seek help but to no avail. Both NMC and OCW are mutually blaming each other. There is no control of anyone over OCW, he alleged.

A ruling party nagarsewak was of the view that the water supply was quite smooth when it was being carried out by NMC administration but the situation started worsening since the work was handed over to the contractor, a close aide of a senior BJP leader, for next 25 years. The nagarsewaks too are feeling helpless to initiate any move against the contractor owing to his proximity with the concerned BJP leader.

Under current set of situations, Kohle certainly tried to hog the limelight by coming up with bold comments over the incident.

Another nagarsewak who wish not be named informed Nagpur Today that even the concerned director of OCW does not pay any heed to the ruling party.

Commenting on the incident, OCW official informed that a case has been registered at Pratap Nagar police station not against any specific individual but as the incident resulted from the mob’s ire.
