OCW completes 24-hours Sitabuldi Fort (Killa) shutdown successfully

Replaces 6 valves on main supply line (4 BF and 2 Air Valves) & started rehabilitation of Sitabuldi (Fort) MBR

Nagpur News : The Orange City Water (OCW) has not only successfully completed installation of 6 big size valves (4 Butterfly valve and 2-Air valves) on main water supply line but also started much awaited rehabilitation work of Sitabuldi Fort (Killa) MBR during a 24-hours shutdown that was taken up from Sept 11 at 9.30 am to Sept. 12 at 9.30 am.

It may be mentioned here NMC-OCW had announced 24-hours shut down for carrying out pre-requisite work of reconstruction of Sitabuldi Fort (Killa) MBR which include isolation of Fort Tanks, Bypass Arrangement, butter fly valve and other distribution related maintenance work, etc. These works were carried out to strengthen water supply system and boost water supply especially in the localities of Central Nagpur.

Water supply in affected parts of Gandhibagh zone, parts of Satranjipura zone and parts of Lakadganj Zone were also restored after successful completion of shutdown.

It must be mentioned here, presently, like Seminary Hills MBR’s, there are two MBR’s located at Sitabuldi Fort (Fort-I and Fort-II), which supplies water especially to Central parts of Nagpur. Out of these age- old MBR’s Fort —II will be completely demolished and new MBR will be constructed on the same site.

The Fort -II MBR constructed almost 50- years back have never been touched yet and was heavily leaking from all sides. The demolition process has already been started from Aug 29 and at present one part has been completely demolished too. OCW Technical expert’s team is working on Sitabuldi MBR rehabilitation and Seminary MBR rehabilitation under the guidance of Chief Executive Officer, Sanjoy Roy, Deputy Director (Works) Venkat Reddy, Sandeep Purohit, Bhushan Apshankar and (Manager Health & Safety) Amit Gedam.
