NVCC Meets GST Appeals Commissioner, Submits Tax Reforms Memo

Nagpur,: Vidarbha’s 13 lac traders apex body of Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) felicitated Shri Ajit Kumar, Commissioner (Appeals), Central GST, Nagpur, and welcomed him on assuming his new responsibilities. The delegation expressed confidence that, under his leadership, the appellate mechanism would become more efficient, transparent and taxpayer-friendly.

On the occasion, NVCC submitted a representation highlighting various issues being faced by taxpayers and professionals in GST appellate proceedings. The Chamber requested the Commissioner to consider suitable administrative measures for ensuring speedy and effective disposal of appeals.

  • Expeditious disposal of pending GST appeals to reduce litigation and ease the burden on taxpayers.
  • Granting adequate opportunities of personal hearing and acceptance of written submissions in deserving cases.
  • Adopting a liberal approach towards procedural and technical lapses where substantive justice is not affected.
  • Continuing and encouraging virtual hearings wherever feasible to improve accessibility and reduce compliance costs.
  • Timely communication of hearing notices and appellate orders through electronic means.
  • Ensuring consistency in appellate decisions on recurring legal issues to provide certainty and reduce avoidable litigation.
  • Holding periodic interaction with trade bodies and professional associations to understand practical difficulties faced by the business community.

Shri Ajit Kumar appreciated the constructive suggestions made by NVCC and assured the delegation that every effort would be made to ensure a fair, transparent and efficient appellate process within the framework of the GST law. He also emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue between the tax administration and trade bodies for improving voluntary compliance and reducing disputes.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and reflected the shared commitment of the tax administration and the trade fraternity towards creating a facilitative tax ecosystem.
