Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the National apex body of trade associations has called for Bharat Business Bandh on September 20th 2012. The Bandh opposes the decision of the Central Government to permit multinational retail companies to open their stores in India. It is being strongly criticized from all sections of the society. B.C Bhartia, the National President of CAIT said that the Government couldn’t justify its reasoning for allowing FDI in retail trade. He also said that it would affect coming generations. The Bandh call is to jointly address the recent decision of the Central Government to allow Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail trade, rationing of subsidised LPG cylinder and selling of shares of profitable PSUs and Navratna companies like NALCO and Oil India. The leaders and followers of trade organizations, Left parties, Republican Aghadi and republican Panthers would gather at Variety square at 3.00 pm on Thursday to participate in the ‘Nagpur Bandh’. Meanwhile, Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) has called for ‘Vidarbha Bandh’ on Thursday registering its protest against FDI in retail trade. President of NVCC, Dipen Agrawal has appealed to all its members and traders to close all their outlets and not carry on any business for the entire day. “FDI will re impose slavery in India” he felt. NVCC premises would also witness the burning of an FDI effigy at 12.30 pm on Thursday. He has requested all members to remain present. NCCL and BJP have also supported this call.
