Nursing student ends life in Nagpur GMCH hostel

Nagpur: A nursing student pursuing BSc affiliated with Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel in Nagpur.

According to police, Rutuja Bagde (19), a native of Bhandara, resided in the hostel of the college. She was a first year nursing student pursuing a BSc in Medical Sciences. She lived alone in a room of the nursing hostel at the medical complex.

Having recently passed her first semester exams, she was preparing for the upcoming second semester exams scheduled in June. On Tuesday night, she retired to her room around 10 pm. On Wednesday morning, Rutuja didn’t show up during the regular headcount around 7 am. Fellow students went to her room to check on her. They found the door locked from the inside. Despite repeated calling out to her, there was no response. Some students attempted to peer through the window and were shocked to discover Rituja hanging motionless in the room.

Ajni police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. A case of accidental death was registered by Ajni police. The police are probing the circumstances that forced her to take the extreme step.
