Nagpur: Taking a serious view on the growing encroachment in the city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Shravan Hardikar has appointed NMC assistant commissioner Ashok Patil as in-charge of encroachment department and empowered him to use his own discretion to deal with the sprawling problem of encroachment toughly, whether temporary or permanent, in the city.

Earlier this task was assigned to the NMC’s executive engineer (Quality Control) Dilip Jamgade but he could not handle the responsibility satisfactorily.

Ashok Patil has been chosen from a couple of responsible NMC officials, looking into his previous record, and now it is hoped that he would do his best to get the city rid of encroachment, be on road-sides, foot-paths or any other part of the city. Since he is made in-charge of encroachment department, his post as NMC Asstt Commr in-charge Satranjipura Zone, which has become vacant, will be fulfilled by NMC Asstt Commr Asinagar Zone Harish Raut and Asinagar Zone will be taken over by Hanuman Nagar Asstt Commr Vijay Humne. Similarly, Gandhibagh Asst Commr Raju Bhivagade will take over the charge of Hanuman Nagar Zone, and Gandhibagh Zone will be handled by Asstt Commr Milind Meshram of LBT department.

It may be mentioned here that when Harish Raut was in-charge of Asinagar Zone, the much-talked-about scam in housing scheme had taken place and bogus cheques were issued. In the just concluded general body meeting of NMC, the Mayor had directed him to proceed on leave.
