Now, 400 prisoners of Nagpur Jail to go on a hunger strike for separate Vidarbha

In an unusual development, 400 prisoners of Nagpur Central Jail, have decided to observe one day hunger strike in support of demand for Vidarbha Statehood on Saturday (August 24). The 400 prisoners include 24 women prisoners. This information was shared by Diwakar Kotulwar.

It is very unfortunate that despite being part of Maharashtra for 53 years, Vidarbha was not developed on the expected lines. Therefore, for all-round development of the region, a separate Vidarbha has become an absolute necessary, a press release said. The creation of Vidarbha Statehood for development of natural resources and the utilization its skilled manpower for the purpose is need of the hour. And for achieving the mission, the Administration must be in the hands of local people. Now, the movement for separate Vidarbha is gaining strength again. Therefore, for supporting the demand for Vidarbha Statehood, the prisoners have decided to go on a day’s hunger strike, the press release said.
