Mumbai/Nagpur: A week after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke about an expansion of the cabinet before the start of the winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur on December 7, there now appears to be uncertainty about the plan owing to lack of consensus on the new members to be inducted.

It is learnt the Shiv Sena speaking against the BJP every now and then is also hindering the expansion.

Notwithstanding the uncertainty, Fadnavis has maintained that a cabinet expansion is on the cards.

“Fadnavis had drafted a plan to expand the cabinet before the Nagpur session, but as of now, the plan appears to have been abandoned,” a senior BJP minister told media on condition of anonymity. “We do not know when the CM will induct new cabinet members. It may be after the winter session of the state legislature. Prima facie, it appears that the BJP leadership did not approve the names proposed by the state unit.”

The minister said there was also no response from the Sena on the expansion.
