congressNagpur: Congress leader of opposition in NMC House Vikas Thakre and his supporters sat on dharna and created a ruckus outside the House yesterday evening asking for enquiry of many scams and allegations they have been making against those in power in NMC now.

The scams mentioned are the same as before – namely: Star Bus, Nagarjuna Company scam, Garbage disposal Company alleged fraud, Funeral ghat firewood scam etc. etc.

There are no new issues, or rather burning issues that Nagpur citizens can identify with and get provoked with.
Elections to NMC are coming up next year (2017) and unless the fragmented Congress groups can come up with a common agenda and fight under one umbrella, they might miss the bus to a majority even this time.

NT spoke to Vikas Thakre about this on phone. He denies that there is lack of enthusiasm in Congress cadre and re iterates that they will keep fighting for their demands in the House itself. They have no plans of going to Court to press for their demands for an enquiry or punishment to the ‘guilty’.

Regarding issues like encroachment on PKV land Thakre said that the state administration itself is not allowing encroachers to be evicted.

Congressmen have also been blaming Fadnavis and BJP for Nagpur not being among the smart cities list, but they have no concrete points to blame the civic administration with.

A comprehensive survey carried out by Nagpur Today in December about Nagpurians views on NMC working had shown that lack of Parking spaces, illegal construction in malls, hospitals and buildings of Ramdaspeth and Dhantoli, lack of street lighting, bad condition of roads etc. were many of the issues that people are concerned with.

Unless Congress men under the leadership of Vikas ‘Bhau’ get pro active and tackle all these issues unitedly, there is little hope for their party and unfortunately, for Nagpur as well.
