Adv. Tushar Mandlekar urges media to ensure effective implementation of noise pollution directions
Nagpur: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed the police and authorities to take effective action against violations of noise pollution norms, including the seizure of DJ, Dolby and other sound systems being used in violation of prescribed rules.
The directions extend beyond Nagpur city to 10 districts in the Vidarbha region falling under the jurisdiction of the Nagpur Bench. The police have been tasked with ensuring concrete implementation of the directions within the next 15 days.
The information was shared by Adv. Tushar Mandlekar, who urged the media to highlight whether the directions are being implemented on the ground rather than remaining limited to official orders.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil had earlier imposed restrictions on the use of DJs, music systems and Dolby sound systems under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
During the hearing, the state government referred to the restrictions imposed by the Nagpur Police Commissioner. However, the court was apprised that merely issuing restrictions would not be sufficient and that authorities must take actual action against those violating the norms.
The court subsequently directed the concerned authorities to ensure effective enforcement, including action against and seizure of sound systems used in violation of the rules.
With the directions applicable across 10 districts of Vidarbha, operators using DJs, Dolby systems and other sound-amplifying equipment at excessive volumes could now face direct police action and seizure of equipment.
The coming 15 days will be crucial in determining how effectively the police and administration implement the High Court’s directions.
