NMC’s voter awareness Chariot Rally rolls out under SVEEP programme

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), organised a citywide Voter Awareness Chariot Rally to encourage informed and active participation in the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation general elections.

The rally, carrying slogans such as “Be a vigilant citizen, be a voter,” “Vote for Nagpur’s development,” “Women’s voting, strong democracy,” was flagged off from the NMC headquarters by Municipal Commissioner and Election Officer Dr Abhijit Chaudhari.

The launch event was attended by Additional Commissioners Vasumana Pant and Vaishnavi B., Deputy Commissioner and SVEEP Nodal Officer Dr Ranjana Lade, Deputy Commissioners Mangesh Khawale and Dr Meghna Vasankar, Education Officer Sadhana Sayam, Health and Medical Officer Dr Deepak Selokar, Public Relations Officer Manish Soni, Sports Officer Piyush Ambulkar, and SVEEP Coordinator Dr Sushant Chimankar, among others.

As part of the voter outreach drive, the Voter Awareness Chariot will traverse all zones of the city to motivate citizens to participate in large numbers in the forthcoming civic polls. The campaign also focuses on spreading awareness about voter registration and educating voters on how to cast their votes in the multi-member electoral system. The initiative will continue across various parts of all zones till January 11.

Students from the NSS units of Annasaheb Gundewar College, Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, and Hislop College actively participated in the rally, engaging with citizens and spreading voter awareness. The programme was conducted under the guidance of NSS in-charges Dr Anil Bankar (Vasantrao Naik Institute), Dr Manoj Madavi and Dr Murlidhar Wakode (Annasaheb Gundewar College), and Dr Milind Ghate (Hislop College).

For effective implementation, zone-wise coordinators have been appointed. Archana Lande will oversee Laxminagar zone; Dr Ankit Pusadkar (Dharampeth); Purvesh Fatting (Hanumannagar); Nitin Karale (Dhantoli); Dr Sanjay Singanjude (Nehrunagar); Dr Milind Ghate (Gandhibagh); Dr Manoj Madavi (Sataranjipura); Dr Dinesh Kawade (Lakadganj); Dr Rajni Harode (Ashinagar); and Dr Sandhya Fatting (Mangalwari).

Before the rally commenced, Dr Abhijit Chaudhari interacted with the participating students, who carried placards promoting voting awareness. The chariot was equipped with a digital display board flashing voter-related messages and slogans, drawing the attention of citizens along its route.

Patriotic tunes set the tone

At the inauguration, teachers from municipal schools, with support from the Fire Brigade band, played patriotic melodies, creating a spirited and patriotic atmosphere. Band members included Prakashchand Kalasia, Kamalakar Manmode, Fire Brigade personnel Ishika Raut, and Akash Shrirame.
