Cultural week Umang celebrated at G. S. College of Commerce & Economics

Nagpur: The welcoming of the New Year witnessed the celebration of Umang, the annual cultural program at the G. S. College of Commerce & Economics, Nagpur. Various events were organised under the banner. The opening was with month long sports events followed by various competitions like mehendi, rangoli, cookery, poster making, etc. with the objective to promote various Indian arts.

Retail Mela was organised in the campus to develop the business and entrepreneurial skills of the students. The events also had singing and dance competitions. Finale of Umang was with the grand Indian Traditional Day with the theme of Bharatiya Nritya Utsav where students’ of senior college walked the ramp displaying the different Indian attires followed by the dances of the states. Students’ of junior college walked the ramp with the theme of Bhartiya Parvo Utsav where they showcased the different Indian attires with festivals celebrated in those states. The objective of all the events was to promote Indian culture and tradition and display the richness of India, the land of Unity in Diversity.

The NCC Unit of the college in a ballad form displayed the courage, valour, patriotism of the Indian soldiers that added the true colours of the Indian spirit. The curtains were drawn by prize distribution along with certificates to the winners of various competitions and to all participants. From senior college there were 348 participants and from junior college.

The inauguration of the cultural week was at the hands of Principal Dr. Praveen Mustoor along the side with conveners Dr. Manoj Pandey and Prof. Raunak Shah. Joined on stage was Vice Principal (Junior) Dr. Bhavna Gattuwar, HSVC in charge Prof. Shilpa Yadao, COE Prof. Pravin Yadao, IQAC Dr. Vishal Thangan. Principal Dr. Praveen Mustoor in the opening remarks stressed on the objective of the cultural week was not only to provide a platform to display the talent of the students but also to promote Indian tradition, culture, art, attire, dance etc. in true spirit of the National Education Policy of Bhartiya Parampara. AIl faculty members worked hard for the success of all segments. Overwhelming response of students was visible with the vibrant colours in the campus.
