NMC’s ‘Shikshan Saptah’ provides students a big platform to showcase talents: Mayor

Nagpur: The Mayor Nanda Jichkar on Wednesday inaugurated centralised sporting contests which is part of the going ‘Shikshan Saptah,’ the annual festival by school children of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) run schools. Various sporting events such as Kabbadi, Langdi, 100 metre race, long jump, triple jump, shot put, javelin throw etc will be held at Yashwant Stadium.

The event is being held to provide platform to students studying in civic body run schools to present their talents on a big stage and help in keeping them physically fit and helps in their development.

Other dignitaries seated on the dais include Chairman of Education Committee Prof Dilip Diwe, Chairman of Sports Committee Nagesh Sahare, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Mohite, Education Officer Sandhya Medpalliwar, Assistant Education Officer Rajendra Suke, Kusum Chaplekar, Sports Officer Naresh Savaithul, and Sports Inspector Naresh Chaudhary.

Addressing the programme, the Mayor said that the ‘Shikshan Saptah,’ being organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation annually, is encouraging students to take part in various events. The students are receiving a platform to showcase their talent in sporting and cultural events. The “Shikshan Saptah’ is boosting overall development of the students, she said.

At the outset, the Mayor Jichkar performed pujan of the playground by lighting the traditional lamp. The sporting events will go on from December 19 to 21 and the concluding programme will be held at Kavi Suresh Bhat Auditorium on December 22. On Wednesday, different teams vied in football, Langdi, Tug of War, Kabaddi. On Thursday, various contest including race, long jump, shot put, disc throw, triple jump will be held. On Friday, cultural events such as dramas, dance along with personality and chess contests would be organised.
