Nagpur, 25 August 2026: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA) signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on the development and implementation support of the Nagpur City Climate Action Plan (NCCAP) and to strengthen the Nagpur City Climate Action Cell.

The collaboration follows the direction of the Government of Maharashtra’s Environment and Climate Change Department to strengthen climate action at the city level. The State Climate Action Cell has also entered into a non-financial MoU with YUVA to develop Climate Action Plans for Nagpur and Akola.

The three-year partnership will support the development of a climate action plan based on Nagpur’s climate risks, vulnerabilities and priorities. The process will bring together available data, technical knowledge and inputs from different stakeholders to understand the climate challenges facing the city and identify appropriate climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. It will also include developing an implementation and climate finance roadmap and supporting the institutionalisation and functioning of the Nagpur City Climate Action Cell, including stakeholder coordination, capacity building and monitoring of climate action.

YUVA will bring its technical expertise and experience of working with communities to the process. The organisation will support consultations with relevant government departments, experts, academic institutions, civil society organisations and other stakeholders. Community knowledge and local experiences will also be brought into the process to help identify practical and locally relevant climate actions.

Speaking about the collaboration, Nitin Meshram, Project Lead – Nagpur, YUVA, said:
“Climate action cannot be limited to infrastructure and environmental interventions. It must also respond to how climate change affects people’s homes, livelihoods and everyday lives. This collaboration provides an opportunity to bring people’s experiences and the realities of vulnerable groups into Nagpur’s climate planning process.”

The partnership is expected to create a platform for NMC, YUVA and other relevant stakeholders to work together over the next three years on Nagpur’s climate priorities and strengthen the city’s institutional capacity to respond to climate change.

At the MoU signing, NMC was represented by Superintendent Engineer Ms Swetha Banerjee, Executive Engineer Mr Rajesh Dufare, Deputy Engineer Mr Waghmare and Junior Engineer Mr Sandeep Lokhande. From YUVA, Nitin Meshram, Project Lead, Ms Swati Thote and Mr Nilesh Khadse were present.
