Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is taking a unique approach to encourage citizens to abide by traffic rules with the introduction of an innovative pilot project called Traffic Rewardz. This groundbreaking initiative aims to incentivize individuals who display good traffic behaviour within the city. The project, funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, will be officially launched on Saturday.

Traffic Rewardz is an application designed to reward citizens with points for adhering to traffic signals and practicing responsible driving habits. By promoting and reinforcing positive traffic behavior, the NMC hopes to enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations in Nagpur.

The app functions by monitoring users’ compliance with traffic rules through various means, including location-based services and artificial intelligence algorithms. When users are detected obeying traffic signals and demonstrating responsible driving behavior, they will receive reward points. These points can be accumulated and later redeemed for a range of rewards offered by more than 100 national, international, and local brands affiliated with the program.

Through this innovative approach, Nagpur Municipal Corporation aims to foster a sense of responsibility among citizens and promote a culture of traffic rule compliance. By rewarding positive behaviour, the NMC hopes to create a positive impact on the overall traffic scenario in the city.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, has recognized the potential of this project and provided the necessary funding to support its implementation. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents across the country.

The success of this pilot project in Nagpur could potentially pave the way for similar initiatives to be implemented in other cities across India, contributing to the overall improvement of road safety and traffic management nationwide.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch the initiative. To get the rewards, the user has to install the Traffic Rewards app from the Play Store or Apple store and register their details. Citizens who register will get a Traffic Rewardz tag delivered to their homes for free. The user then has to apply this tag to their vehicle. When the vehicle with this tag stops at the red signal, RFID scanners (placed at 10 signals as of now) identify it. And the user gets 10 points in the App in real-time. Thus, every time the user follows the signal they will get points.

These collected points can be redeemed across 100+ brands like BPCL, Bajaj Allianz, Pizza Hut, KFC, Cinepolis, Kingsway Hospital, Alexis Hospital, etc. Some of the attractive rewards include free petrol at BPCL petrol pumps, discount on insurance premium from Bajaj Allianz, and other exciting offers on different brands. This project is implemented by M/s Social-Impact Innovations Pvt Ltd with VNIT being the project management consultant. About 1,00,000 tags will be distributed for free in Nagpur city. To register, the citizen can visit www.trafficrewards.in or can give a missed call to 7879066066.
