Nagpur: The Hotmix Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has said that the civic body spent Rs 3 crore to repair 3,018 potholes within the Nagpur city limits through two private agencies. This translates to NMC spending Rs 9,940 to repair each pothole. Besides private firms, the Hotmix Department too has repaired and patched up potholes at another 3,868 places in the city during the current financial year.
According to Ajay Dahake, Executive Engineer of NMC’s Hotmix Department, the NMC had repaired 2,093 potholes through Jetpatcher, while Instapatcher had repaired 925 potholes. NMC had paid Rs 3 crore to the two agencies. The Hotmix Department not only repaired potholes but also resurfaced 40 tar roads of over 24,561 metres.
According to the Department, 59% of the potholes were due to rainfall, 4% due to improper reconstruction work after ripping up the road for laying utilities such as electricity cables, water pipes etc, and 37% were due to lack of renovation of roads.
The Hotmix Department has also asked the Deputy Municipal Commissioners of all 10 zones to submit a list of five roads with potholes in their districts that are not concretised, and need to be completely rehabilitated. This will enable the Hotmix Department to rehabilitate all defective roads in the city.
