Nagpur: In a major crackdown against illegal encroachments obstructing traffic, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) carried out an extensive joint anti-encroachment drive in the Dhantoli area under the Dharampeth and Laxminagar Zones on August 27, 2026. The operation targeted unauthorized structures and roadside encroachments that had become a major cause of traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.

The drive was conducted under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner, the Commissioner of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic). During the operation, roads leading to hospitals, clinics, and other public facilities in the Dhantoli area were cleared of encroachments. A substantial quantity of illegally placed materials was seized by the civic authorities.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has issued a stern warning to citizens, traders, shopkeepers, vendors, and commercial establishments against occupying public roads or government land. The civic body made it clear that any future encroachments found on roads affecting traffic movement will be removed without notice, and all encroaching materials will be confiscated.

In a strong message to habitual offenders, the NMC stated that, apart from demolition and seizure of materials, criminal cases will also be registered under the relevant legal provisions against those violating the law. The administration emphasized that it will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to illegal occupation of public spaces.

The civic administration further announced that the anti-encroachment campaign in the Dhantoli area will continue on a sustained basis to ensure that roads and public spaces remain permanently free from encroachments. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining public order and smooth traffic movement.

Meanwhile, the Dharampeth Zone No. 2 conducted intensive anti-encroachment drives on August 25 and 26, 2026, covering Hislop College Road and VNIT Road. The operation was also carried out under the joint guidance of the Municipal Commissioner, Commissioner of Police, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

The drive was supervised by the Assistant Commissioner of Dharampeth Zone, with the participation of the Anti-Encroachment Squad, NDS officials, and civic staff.

During the operation, gas cylinders being illegally used by encroaching roadside vendors on VNIT Road were immediately seized. The civic administration warned that licences of violators would be cancelled if they continue to flout regulations.

The NMC also announced that similar anti-encroachment drives will be intensified across various parts of the Dharampeth Zone. Authorities have made it clear that repeat offenders who continue to encroach upon the same locations will face criminal prosecution, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to eliminate illegal encroachments and restore public roads for safe and unhindered use.
