Birsa Munda who was an Indian tribal freedom fighter and a folk hero, who belonged to the Munda tribe, had then spearheaded the Millenarian movement that rose in the tribal belt of modern day Bihar and Jharkhand, in the late 19th century, during the British Raj, thereby making him an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement.
The office-bearers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation too observed the Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda.
Deputy Mayor Munna Pokulwar, Former Mayor Mayatai Iwnate, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Dhamecha, garlanded the portrait which hangs in the Central Hall of the NMC.
