Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated a ground leveling project at the Morbhavan Bus Station to alleviate the issues caused by waterlogging and mud accumulation due to heavy rains. This action comes in response to directives from Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary.
Morbhavan Bus Station, one of the city’s busiest transit hubs, sees thousands of passengers daily. However, recent rains had led to severe waterlogging and mud in the bus station area, causing significant inconvenience to both passengers and bus operators. A few days ago, continuous rainfall resulted in water accumulation in the extended area of the Morbhavan Bus Depot, creating a muddy mess that disrupted bus operations and made it difficult for passengers to navigate the depot. Additionally, the D.P. Road area experienced significant waterlogging, further exacerbating the problem.
Dr. Chaudhary personally inspected the site and reviewed the situation, issuing instructions to the Public Works and Hot Mix Plant departments to resolve the issue. In response, the NMC began laying down murum (gravel) to level the grounds in the affected areas. The project is now underway, with the entire Morbhavan Bus Station area being treated to ensure smoother and safer movement for passengers.
The NMC has taken comprehensive measures to prevent similar issues during the monsoon season, ensuring that passengers at the Morbhavan Bus Station, including its extension area, will not have to contend with muddy conditions. To further improve passenger convenience, arrangements for drinking water have been made, and sheds have been constructed for both passengers and bus operators.
The initiative, driven by Dr. Chaudhary’s commitment to passenger comfort, has received close attention from NMC officials, including Superintendent Engineer Manoj Talewar, Executive Engineer Ajay Dahake, Transport Manager Ganesh Rathod, and other staff from the Transport Department, who have all worked diligently to ensure the project’s success.
