Nagpur: With the demonetization of 500 and 1,000 notes, the citizens are exploring various means of disposing off the cash which they had been stashing for such a long time. One such very interesting means of disposing off their old demonetized notes was observed at the office of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s property tax on Thursday.

A sudden surge was witnessed in the payment of property tax and other municipal corporation bills. People made a beeline to zone offices of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to pay the property tax, who otherwise even after served with notice do not pay the dues. There were some who paid the tax for the entire year in one go. Total 6.2 crore property tax were collectively deposited in all the 10 zones of NMC. These payments have come as huge relief to cash strapped NMC.

On the directives of the State government, NMC had announced that 1,000 and 500 bills will be accepted for payment of electricity bill, water bill, property tax or any kind of government dues. Taking advantage of this opportunity, people started flocking to NMC zone offices to utilize their old currency notes in the form of paying dues.
